The Starry Sky Above It All

“I don't know anything with certainty, but seeing the stars makes me dream.”
-Vincent van Gogh

I saw him standing in a cypresses field underneath the burning sun,
with his eyes lost in the stars that made him dream and love.
He was there fighting a battle of years against an inclement world,
a battle already lost for every marvelous and unintended soul.

He was moving his hand with the passion that only heaven gives,
the burning passion of a violent fire that nobody can see.
He and his simple desires, he and his visions until the end of life,
beauty flooding every brushstroke he makes through space and time.

I saw him dreaming his painting and painting his dreams,
what would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?
The night is always more alive and richly colored than the day
Illusions may fade away, but the sublime will always remain.

Alone as only marvelous and unintended souls can be,
He used to feel deeply, he used to feel tenderly.
Sadness will last forever, were the last words he whispered to me
and he burned out with the violent passion that only heaven can give...
